In partnership with Hooke Court in Malawi, Prodigal Bikes has supplied over 190 bikes to school teachers in the schools around Bandawe and Chintheche on the western shore of Lake Malawi. Here the teachers were walking many kilometres from their accommodation to the schools they teach at. With the bikes they now have more time and energy to devote to teaching.
The bikes are maintained by pupils and staff at the Bandawe school for the deaf. This work helps upskill the students with engineering skills improving their chances of employment in a country with very high unemployment.
The bikes have been delivered in three batches since 2018. The results have been amazing. Most of the bikes are still running. We understand that this area’s education was ranked 16th out of 17 in Malawi. Since the bikes were delivered, and with the work Hooke Court have done, they are now 3rd out of 17.
